How to Laser-target Adwords Campaigns for Buyers?
Not Everyone,who enter your search term would be buyers.for Example if you are selling “Business Web hosting” and if a person is looking for “Web hosting forum” is definitely not your prospect.but using the term “web hosting” as phrase match would trigger your ads for all possible combinations and hence your Impressions will be lot more and your CTR will be getting lower and hence your CPC will be kept higher.Is there a strategy to make sure you only target the buyers?
One of the most underutlised and the one feature in adwords that you can refine immediately and increase your convesions immediately is “Negative Keywords”.
Sure enough choosing Negative Keywords effectively can increase your convesions dramatically as it cut out all those unwanted vistors and focuses more on Targeted Vistors.But as per coversations with my friends i don’t find that feature to be used in a correct manner to yeild more results.
More Often keywords like “FREE,NUDE,SEX,ADULT..etc” are alone used as Negative Keywords so that to cut out the freebie seeking visitors.But this can be taken to a whole new level.
You can generate keywords from any tool or from the Google Keyword Generation tool itself.I use Keyword Elite for the same.
Once you arrive at a list of keywords,look at the list and go with individual keywords and check if the keyword is targeted towards the product or it is a “Slight Miss”.If you find it to be a Slight Miss or not targeted,then filter out those keywords into a different list.From this filtered list take out the “Main Keyword” and have the remaining keywords.Then use the arrived list of keywords as the Negative keywords for your campaigns.What we have done is we’ve arrived at all the non-relevant keywords which are around the niche you are targeting and thereby we’ve focused out campaigns on the EXACT keywords that will bring us sales and since it is more focused,the quality score is much higher and hence the Cost Per Click also tends to be a lot lesser..
Let me Illustrate the same with an example.for this Let us take “dog training” as an example.
1. so we searched in Google keyword tool and we came up with a list say which looks like

2.Considering You Market a “Dog Training Information Product”,choosing the following keyword from the list will be a lot targeted.

3.That leaves us with a List.This List of keywords are a Slight Miss or is not synchronous with the product.

4.So Removing the Main Keyword “dog training” from the list leaves us with

This Will be our Negative Keywords for our campaign.Since We arrived at this list from the same Niche what we are targeting,this will filter out the casual browsers and lets us to market our products to a much more focused Buyers.
and since filtering out the Negative Keywords makes our pages more targeted,the Quality score of our pages increase a lot and hence the Cost Per Click (CPC) decreases a lot.
